This time of year, entertaining can be stressful – and often unavoidable. From hosting Thanksgiving dinner to throwing your family’s annual Christmas party, you’ll have plenty to arrange. But take a cue from the best Las Vegas catering services; these tricks can help simplify your soiree.
Downsize Your Expectations
Take it from caterers who know; most people hosting a party overestimate the amount of food needed. Unless your guests are all starving football players, chances are, they won’t eat as much as you think. If you’re serving dinner, keep the appetizers and desserts pretty light. If you’re just serving appetizers, plan on eight or so per person. You’ll likely still have leftovers!
Decorate With Food
Spending a ton of money on décor that you won’t use again is silly – especially if you have beautiful food to show off! Use platters, cheese boards and even cutting boards to beautifully display your appetizers, and place utensils in beautiful vases or containers. This works best with room-temperature dishes, so dips, cheeses and breads work very well.
Keep it Warm – Easily
For a casual affair, keeping foods warm is easy; just use your kitchen as part of the buffet line. Slow cookers work great to keep stews, soups and meats warm, while hot drinks can sit simmering on the stovetop. Casual is great if you want people to serve themselves. Bonus: you get to spend your time enjoying the party!
Chill Out
Keeping food cold can also be a challenge. Instead of buying expensive serving items you likely won’t use very often, create your own food chillers by filling a large bowl with cushed ice, then placing the food dish directly on top.
Prep Your Garbage
While you’re focused on preparing food, you might overlook one key party element: the trash! Before your guests arrive, line your trash bin with multiple bags. That way you can pull out a full bag and be all ready to go with the next. Plan for one large garbage bag for every 10 guests.
